Old Mac Daddy had a farm

"Once upon a farm...The people that brought you Daddy Long Legs, The Grand Daddy and the Airstream Trailer Park are at it again. Pitchforked to open in May this year, Old Mac Daddy will be a trailer camp park in Elgin that promises to put the barn dance back in your bounce.

In true Daddy style, ten authentic Airstream trailers will be fully redecorated by artists and creatives."

They need you to help them vote on Thursday and Friday this week at the Grand Daddy Hotel on Long Street anytime between 9am and 7pm.

Look for ours, "The Private Life of Plants". If the urge comes over you to vote for someone else, take a deep breath, think carefully, and refrain. the friendship will be over.

Our Concept

Drawing inspiration from the proposed site in Elgin, we have endeavored to show a glimpse into the world of an eccentric botanist.

We imagine the space to be a quiet retreat that coexists with nature, but at the same time retains a sense of intrigue and exploration.

The botanist is constantly observing, collecting and reflecting. This translates into a space that is filled with curious artifacts and unexpected compilations of old and new, the found and the manufactured, natural and manmade all sourced from near and far.

For both conceptual and ethical reasons, the space has to retain a strong green conscience, in order to pay respect to the botanist and his love of all flora and fauna.

The quality of materials in the space, mimic that of a well worn study or scientific laboratory, while retaining a sense of effortless luxury and eco-consciousness.

A reclaimed parquet floor will be paired with eco-friendly paints, responsible fabrics and restored cabinetry.

The upholstery used in the lounge and bed area will have a similar quality to that of Casamento; a broken colour palette with retro lines and simple deep buttons. All fabric will be organic, and will boast a visible weaved texture; hessian and bamboo fabrics would be ideal. White crisp bed linen will add to the comfort and feeling of luxury in the space.

The accessories in the space need to have a “travelled” and collected quality. This will include old globes, vintage textbooks and prints, bell jars and beakers, clocks, plants, industrial tripod lamps and of course beautiful botanical illustrations.

Again, the cutlery, crockery and appliances will have a similar feel to the above, but will always retain an element of luxury. This will include mismatched antiques, new and retro pieces and a few elements of colour.

The style of the kitchen cabinetry will draw from the aesthetic of enamel filing cabinets and glass medicine cupboards, combined with unspoilt woods.

Ultimately, this trailer retreat is a place to escape, to appreciate nature and indulge in precious self-reflection and relaxation.
